Biography

Joe Carmolli earned his Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Capella University and completed his clinical training at Fountain Hill Center. After more than 25 years as an educator, Joe views his transition into counseling as the next chapter in a personal and professional journey shaped by teaching, service, lived experience, and a deep belief in the human capacity for change.

As a person in long-term recovery, Joe brings a personal understanding of addiction, the challenges of recovery, and the possibilities that emerge when people begin to see themselves and their lives differently. His own experience has taught him the importance of humility, acceptance, and connection – and that meaningful change is possible, even when it once seemed out of reach. he has a particular interest in helping individuals and families affected by addiction, including those navigating the complicated process of building a life beyond substance use.

Joe works with individuals, couples, and youth experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, life transitions, and other challenges. He is particularly interested in supporting LGBTQ+ individuals and families as the navigate questions of identity, acceptance, belonging, and relationships. His counseling approach is grounded in humanistic and experiential perspectives, drawing on Motivational Interviewing, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and narrative approaches. He believes that therapy is a collaborative relationship built on authenticity, curiosity, compassion, and respect for each person’s unique experiences.

Above all, Joe believes that people are capable of meaningful growth and transformation. His goal is not to tell clients how to live their lives, but to walk alongside them as they develop a deeper understanding of themselves, explore new possibilities, and move toward lives that feel more authentic, connected, and fulfilling.

Joe offers a free 15-minute consultation to help prospective clients ask questions, discuss their hopes for counseling, and explore whether working together feels like a good fit. Sliding scale fees are available based on financial need.
