Yoga Therapy

In order for the cognitive processing involved in traditional talk therapy to be productive, we must first feel connected to ourselves and our sensations, and have some control over our emotions and reactions. For people who have experienced an accident, assault, or other type of trauma, this often isn’t the case. To treat issues like these, a somatic, or body-based, approach like yoga therapy is often more effective than talk-based therapies. Somatic therapies can also be a valuable addition for people already in talk-based therapy.

In addition to individual yoga therapy sessions, The Fountain Hill Center offers yoga therapy groups, community classes, and workshops. Registration for each program below is first-come, first-served. To register, please call (616) 456-1178 or email

Women’s Yoga Therapy Group

Wealthy Theatre Annex (1110 Wealthy St SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49506)

6-Week Program, 6/17-7/22  –  Mondays, 6:30-7:45 PM

This program, facilitated by Fountain Hill Center therapist Jessica Gladden, provides women with the opportunity to reconnect to their physical bodies, identities, and sensations through yoga.

Suitable for any body type or ability level. Participants need not have any prior yoga experience. Cost is $200 for all 6 sessions (Blue Cross Blue Shield, Medicare, and some forms of Medicaid health insurance accepted).

All body types and levels of physical ability are welcome in yoga therapy. It doesn’t matter what you think you can physically do. The focus in this therapy is on becoming more connected to yourself and your physical sensations, and this is something any body can do.
