A History of Changing The Conversation

Since 1976, the Fountain Hill Center has been innovating to solve community mental health problems. In addition to traditional therapeutic options, we offer a wide array of leading edge counseling techniques.

In 1996, we partnered with the founders of the Men’s Resource Center of West Michigan (MRC) to create and host the MRC, which offers some of the area’s most comprehensive approaches to men’s issues. In addition to three therapists specializing in Men’s Issues, we offer programs in Domestic Violence, Sex Addiction, Substance Abuse, and Anger Management.

Last year, we worked with MRC specialists to create the area’s only school-based counseling program for boys, Altogether Boys, in which we help middle school-aged boys build healthy understandings of masculinity.

The Fountain Hill Center Lakeshore Office opened in 2002. The Lakeshore Office is the sole provider in Oceana County of some of the mental health services it provides. Services are offered regardless of a client’s ability to pay, and last year, 90% of services were provided at a pro-bono rate. In addition to in-office counseling, we work with four school systems in the area to provide kids, teachers, and parents with high quality mental and behavioral health services.

In 2014, we also created Kent County’s only Children’s Trauma Assessment Program. Children, parents, and court referral sources can use this program to determine the presence of trauma and abuse and to make appropriate interventions and treatment plans on the child’s behalf.
