2019 Laughing Matters

The Fountain Hill Center is planning a night of great food and great comedy for Saturday, February 23rd! Come join us for Laughing Matters from 6-9 PM at the Shelby Optimist Club and help support our Lakeshore Counseling Office.

This once-a-year fundraiser helps us change the conversation about mental health in Oceana County and provide county residents with the support they need to be well and reach their full potential.

Why It Matters

Last year, Laughing Matters raised enough money to put 340 people into a counseling session. But hundreds more could benefit from having increased access to services. Oceana County has one of the lowest mental health service provider ratios of any county in Michigan, with only 1 provider for every 4,350 people. But about 1 in 5 people will suffer from a mental illness this year.

In order to continue meeting Oceana’s vast need for counseling services, we could use your help!

What Laughing Matters Supports

Funds generated by Laughing Matters support a range of programs at our Lakeshore Office, including counseling for people in need, in-school counseling services, and family support services. Our Lakeshore Office staff see an average of 15-20 clients per week for a variety of issues, including abuse, anxiety, depression, grief, stress, and more. Thanks in large part to Laughing Matters, these counseling services are provided regardless of a client’s ability to pay.

We Put the “Fun” in Fundraiser

Event tickets are $50, and all proceeds go directly to putting someone in a counseling session. Each ticket includes a fantastic dinner and comedy show from Indiana-based comedian, Scott Long.

Scott has appeared on NBC, FOX-TV, and the Bob and Tom Show. Over the past 13 seasons, he’s written Frank Caliendo’s hilarious comedy sketches for the NFL Pregame show on FOX & ESPN, plus 4 Super Bowls and 2 NASCAR Award Shows. He was also voted BEST Comedian in 2014-17 by Gigmaster.com, the largest entertainment booking agency in the US.

Known for his hysterical takes on workplace insanity and dysfunctional families, he’s been hired to perform at pretty much any type of corporate event you can imagine, by the likes of State Farm, John Deere, and GE, as well as at huge events like the Wisconsin State Fair and the Bass Fishing Championships. According to one reviewer, “Scott is a true class act and absolutely hilarious. His material is ahead of its time, and the manner of his presentation is humble, yet captivating.”
