Art Therapy Group for 15-18 year-old males

Self-expression through multimedia art will be explored. Discussion of the art will increase self-awareness, improve social skills and strengthen self-esteem. The group runs for eight weeks. Begins Friday, February 15, 4- 5:30 p.m. $20 per session (if cost is a concern, please let us know when you call to register.) To register for this program, call Fountain Hill Center at 616-456-1178. Brown Bag Lunch Series: Domestic Violence and Substance Abuse

PRESENTERS: Randy Flood, M.A.,L.L.P. Director and Therapist, Men´s Resource Center at Fountain Hill Al Heystek, MA, LPC, MDiv, Therapist Men’s Resource Center at Fountain Hill Joyce Wright, Director of Training, Michigan Domestic Violence. Prevention and Treatment Board WHEN: Thursday, February 24, 2011, 12pm—1:30pm This session will explore the issues related to domestic violence and substance abuse. Panelists will discuss how substance abuse is a complex factor in domestic violence cases. They will discuss the co-morbidity of the issues by highlighting how the two sepa-rate issues intersect and the need of intervention and services. The perspective of both the batterer/perpetrator as well as the victim/survivor will be explored. COST: Program is free. $15 optional social work continuing education credit fee payable upon check-in (includes training materials and 1.5 approved social work continuing education clock hours) CECHs: Grand Valley State University School of Social Work is an approved pro vider with the Michigan Social Work Continuing Education Collaborative- Provider MI CEC-0004. Randy had the opportunity to speak to approximately 800 students in 4 different "Choices for Living" Classes at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan. This semester's discussion was about Focusing on Male Socialization. The feedback from the class and professors involved were positive such that Randy continues to be asked to speak to this class every semester.
