A History of Changing The Coversation

Since 1976, the Fountain Hill Center has been innovating to solve community mental health problems. We offer a wide array of leading edge counseling techniques and traditional, therapeutic options.

In 1996, we partnered with the Men’s Resource Center of West Michigan (MRC) founders to create and host the MRC, which offers some of the area’s most comprehensive approaches to men’s issues. In addition to three therapists specializing in Men’s Issues, we offer programs in Domestic Violence, Sex Addiction, Substance Abuse and Anger Management.

This year, we have worked with MRC specialists to create the area’s only boys school based counseling program where we help middle grade boys address issues of masculinity.

The Fountain Hill Center—Lakeshore Office opened in 2002. At that office, we provide some of Oceana County’s only mental health options and offer our services regardless of a client’s ability to pay. 90% of our services are offered at a pro-bono rate, and in the last two years we have tripled our service capacity. In the area, we work with four school systems to provide kids, teachers and parents with high quality mental and behavioral health services.

In 2014, we also created Kent County’s only Children’s Trauma Assessment Program. Children, parents and court referral sources can use this program to determine the presence of trauma and abuse and to make appropriate interventions and treatment plans on the child’s behalf.

2014 also marked the opening of our Art Therapy Studio, which offers the region’s only certified art therapist. Art Therapy recently received national attention for offering increased positive outcomes to Veterans suffering from post traumatic stress disorder.
